Revival

Well, two posts ago I focused on the word ressurection, which is a good word. But now we are going for a revival, Billy Graham style. In the past, this .blog has focused on topics relating to the the web design, Internet marketing, and other technology related topics. While those topics will still make an appearance here and there I am going to be taking a more personal approach from here on out.

Now for a summary of what has happened in my life since my last post…

Oregon. Yes that’s right, the beautiful state of Oregon is now the place I call home. I moved out here in the middle of May to pursue an amazing opportunity, joining the web development team at GarageGames. For those of you who are unfamiliar with GarageGames, it is a company here in Eugene, Oregon founded to tear down those insane barriers to entry that most independent game developers face in entering the video game development industry. Along with producing amazing game development tools, GarageGames also has used those tools to make some really great games–the most popular of which being Marble Blast Ultra for the Xbox360 Live Arcade (if you have a 360, make sure you pick this up– best $10 you will ever spend).

Anyways, I have a lot of great plans in store for this site, as I am everyday expanding my arsenal of web-based languages and techniques I’m using in projects. My plan is to, as Rick puts it, “bling out” this site with some really cool interactivity and multimedia things to show off my skills =)

If you want to stick around and learn a little more about me and the West Coast, party on after the jump…

Eugene, Oregon is a really great place. It definitely has the West Coast vibe going on. People tend to be a little more laid back and “earthy” out here. While Michigan has a great outdoors and natural scene, the Oregonians (is that what they call themselves?) definitely take it to the next level with a lot of emphasis on the recycling, health, organic fronts. There is much more variance in elevation (geographically speaking) here in Oregon than I’m used to. It’s quite an experience to be driving home in the evening and see some nice foothills in the background of the cityscape.

My one complaint as far as Eugene goes is that I haven’t quite found the right hang out as far as night life goes. There are some great bars around here, but they don’t seem to carry the type of vibe I am used to. I guess that is part of getting settled in in a completely new place. Back in East Lansing (Michigan), I had been there for a while, so I knew where the right scene was depending on my mood. I knew where to go for some good live music, where to go if I wanted to catch a baseball game at a sports bar, or where to go to party hard to some happy hour music.

I have a nice one bedroom apartment here that is definitely the ideal solution for a place to live. It’s a two-story deal (the management company refers to it as a “loft”). I have a good size living room complete with fireplace downstairs and I walk upstairs to my bath/bedroom. The bedroom portion of the pad has a railing that overlooks the living room. The celings are nice and tall, which really helps to provide an open feeling throughout the entire place. Of course, it wouldn’t be complete with my nice patio overlooking the pool. What makes it ideal is nobody lives above or below me, which is nice because that’s usually where you get most of your noise in apartment living, and let’s just saying I have some major debt to ride myself of before I look into a house…

The Ocean. One of the nicest things about living out here is that in about an hour’s drive I can be at the Pacific Ocean. Now this is a pretty insane thought considering a little over two months ago I had never been across the Mississippi River. I had always stuck around on the Eastern part of the United States. The coast here in Oregon is quite a bit different than what I’m used to as far as oceans go. Most of the time when you think of going to the ocean you think of sandy beaches and surfers (well at least I do), but here in Oregon, while there may be some sandy beaches that I haven’t found yet, the coastline is more like cliffs with a road winding in and out of some nice elevated landscape. It is indeed a beautiful sight to behold though. The wind coming of the water is pretty cold though (even though the Sea Lions don’t seem to mind).

The .blog. There are a few new features that are going to be popping up on this site in the future. For those of you who aren’t sure what some of these things are, I will be explaining all so you can make sure you won’t be left in the dark. As far as the sidebar (the right-hand column portion of the site) goes, a lot of action will be going down here.

  1. Currently you can view a calendar which displays dates of all .blog entries. In the future there will be more shown in here, but for now that’s all you get =)
  2. Concerning categories, that’s pretty self explanatory. Even though right now the list is sparse, I will be working on categorizing my posts in the future so that you can sort by category.
  3. de.lic.ious, for those of you are not aware, is a great site that’s the front-runner in this whole “social bookmarking” craze that’s sweeping the net. I’ve gone ahead and made it so you can view the latest sites that I’ve found worth bookmarking. A lot of times these may be oriented to web design topics but keep your eye on em and you never know what you may see. You can also join my network if you have an account on the site through my username, which is “seansulli”.
  4. I also have a list of links that I feel that are worth sharing, such as friend’s blogs, etc. If you would like to be thrown up here and consider yourself my friend, definitely let me know!
  5. GarageGames News. This is an RSS feed to all the latest happenings at GarageGames. Great way to keep in touch with the types of things that are going on at the garage.
  6. Archives– I’ll let those speak for themselves.

Well then there you have it. Stay tuned for more action at sullisnack.com
