Oregon Solo Debut at Furrer Farms

Sean On Stage

This past Saturday evening I performed a set at the Furrer Farms Open House near Eugene. With just my voice, my Heritage H-535, and my Fender Blues DeVille amplifier, I played a set of a little bit over a half hour.

I covered a pretty good range of tunes, from Motown to old country blues to original songs. Unfortunately I don’t have any sound/video clips, but here’s the set list with the original performer in italics:

Bring It On Home - Sam Cooke
Shake Your Hips - Slim Harpo
Sometimes - Sister Hazel
Candle Eyes - Sean Sullivan
I Live the Life I Love - Muddy Waters
Way Back Home - Sean Sullivan
Stagger Lee - John Mississippi Hurt
I’ll Float You - Sean Sullivan
Sugar Daddy - Jackson 5
Perpetual Blues Machine - Keb’ Mo’
Prove Yourself - Sean Sullivan

My act served as a warm-up for the awesome performance that followed by The Procrastinators. I actually saw them play twice this weekend, which was a real treat (Friday night they played W.OW. Hall in Eugene.) Their performance of 19th Nervous Breakdown (originally done by The Rolling Stones) was rockin!

Birthday Cake

Posted on July 25th, 2008 in living

This past Wednesday was my birthday. I came home from jammin’ out with the band to find this awesome cake that Becca had made for me. Not only did she bake this crazy awesome homemade cake filled with delicious pudding and butter cream frosting, but she also frosted a Greek key on the side to accentuate the masculinity of the cake!

The Deck!

Posted on July 24th, 2008 in living

When we bought our house back in March, we decided that the one lesser attractive part of the home was the manner in which the backyard presented itself. When the house was built, they had simply poured a slab of concrete outside the back sliding door and that was that.

Well, we decided that we’d like to have something a little more inviting going on out there, so Becca’s dad and I took it upon ourselves to build a deck one weekend.

I wasn’t really sure what the plan would be to build it, but with her dad being experienced in this sort of thing I figured he would have some excellent suggestions. The existing concrete slab provided a good starting point as it left us in the position where we didn’t have to worry about digging post holes or any of that nonsense.

After 12 hours of work on a beautiful sunny day, we finally had the deck completed. Here’s the before and after pictures.

Instance has released its first single, Different Day, as a free mp3 download from our site.

We have released Different Day as the first downloadable mp3 from Instance and it’s completely free! Featuring a rockin’ groove, Different Day has a pretty catchy hook with lots of “ooh la la la’s” for your listening pleasure. Take a listen and you be the judge!

I am personally pretty proud of the way this recording came out. It was recorded as part of our demo that we laid down in April of this year. Be sure to let me know what you think and if you’re digging the tune then you can help us promote it by tossing this graphic on your blog/myspace (get the code by clicking on the image below)

Everybody has little tricks they came up with to provide therapy when they’re having a long day. Well for a MSU fan, nothing cheers us up quite like watching UM losing games. Of course, the most satisfactory of these University of Michigan losses are the ones that all the sports broadcasters claim they should’ve won. If you don’t understand why this is such a big deal, then you didn’t grow up in the state of Michigan, where the only thing media talks about from late summer through to late fall is the talent and successfulness of their beloved Wolverines. Well for those of you who bleed green, here’s a quick way to cheer yourself up.

A lot has happened since June 11, 2007. I’ve been super busy with the usual attempts to balance work and home life. However, there’s been some super exciting things going on that I’ve failed to blog about!

Since I’ve been really bad about updating my blog in the last year (and I promise the drought is ending), I feel that it is much needed to update everybody on what I’ve been up to. Consider this my excuse list for why I’ve been such a bad blogger. Here’s a brief list of all the great things that have happened in my life since this time last year.

No Contra 4 Tonight…

Posted on November 14th, 2007 in video games

I wanted to get out to get my hands on a copy of Contra 4 for my DS. After all, that’s the reason I asked to get one (a DS) for my birthday. I’m a huge Contra fan!

Anyways, after seeing this picture of the line at GameStop from Naim’s Flickr stream, I’m glad I held off. Probably wouldn’t have any luck getting my hands on a copy anyways since I am not much of the “preordering” type.

IGC Indie Jam Session

Posted on November 14th, 2007 in music

For IndieGamesCon, some employees and community members of GarageGames took part in an Indie Jam Session. It involved lots of excellent beer and rock ‘n’ roll. I got the opportunity to rock out on all six songs on my guitar. A fun time was had by all. Check out the videos here:

Part Two

Note — the audio isn’t great by any means but you get the point!
